Background
This is a melodic hard rock band with Christian leanings. They originated from the Santa Rosa area north of San Francisco, and released this rare hard-to-find LP back in 1987. The Shelly T in question is lead singer Shelly Trumbo, who by all accounts, was only 17 or 18 years old when this was recorded. There are loads of 80's references within the grooves of this band's music, which include the usual 80's suspects such as Toto, Journey, Pat Benetar and Mr Mister, but played with a CCM edge.

The Songs
You can read in the song-titles the subtle Christian messages coming through.'Hold On' is a pleasant way to open the account, melodic with keys to the fore and a prominent lead vocal from Miss Trumbo. The title-track 'Out Of Control' is a much tougher track, with Duane Finger's guitar taking a lead role. As expected, a ballad was sure to make an appearance, and 'You Are The Reason' is it. CCM ballads are usually pretty good, it's no different here. It's parping synths time, as 'Running Scared' keeps Shelly T ring-fenced to the AOR sub-genre. 'No Stone Unturned' is my pick of the album, a strong ,melodic rocker that appeals from the get-go. 'I've Got You' displays a poppier side of the band, similar to Bay Area hopefuls the Paul Godfrey Band. The finale 'The Journey' was probably the biggest disappointment, a sassy tune but with an annoying sax line for accompaniment.

In Summary
This was the only recorded material of the band that I know of. I believe Shelly is on Facebook somewhere. Maybe I can have a chat to her and expand on what frugal knowledge we have on this band that was. You won't find 'Out Of Control' on CD anytime soon, given its private label issue, nor will a vinyl copy appear like magic out of thin air. Well, not that I've seen. The LP isn't even registered on Discogs! Resort to your usual fileshare trader if you are after a copy.
