Another legend of AOR has departed the earth plane in the last week or so. Van McLain from the legendary SHOOTING STAR passed away Saturday, March 3rd, after a three-year battle with West Nile Virus, a mosquito-borne virus he contracted in 2015. Van was aged 62. Van who's real surname was McElvain, formed SS back in the 1970's along with bassist Ron Verlin. As we all know here at GDM, the band released a ton of albums over the decades, with their most productive period being through the early to mid 1980's. RIP Mr. McLain, a few SS albums will be on the deth-deck this week.
Very sad news. I was a huge fan of the SS debut when it came out and still feel its one of the top AOR debuts ever. A great loss and from what I saw and read on Facebook and a couple responses he had to me and a Shooting Star/ The Clocks poster I own, a very nice man with a true Midwestern spirit. R.I.P.
