Coo - excerpts from a poem written about the Peterloo Massacre. When peaceful protesters and reformers were ridden down and massacred by cavalry here in Manchester. Local Middleton hero Sam Bamford was one of the "radicals" who attended. Also the movement involved had men training at local Tandle Hill, after the massacre it was decided to plant a forest there to replace the fields to prevent further gatherings of a potentially militaristic nature. Strangely each tme we have had our greenbelt protests they always centre on Tandle Hill monument and area.
