Pat DiNizo, a founding member, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter of U.S. band The Smithereens, passed away December 12, 2017 at age 62 due to complications from various health issues. We haven't reviewed any of their albums on this site, but they were pretty successful in the late 80s / early 90s. Their most famous song was 'A Girl Like You' from 1989, which would easily make it onto a desert island playlist of mine.
Oh man, I loved 'A Girl Like You' and really still do, great pop.

Here ya go Eric. It really is a great song. I couldn't get into their entire catalog, but that song makes it onto a bunch of my workout playlists.

Eric, did you ever hear the late Dave Zychek's version of 'A Girl Like You' produced by Beau Hill?
I have not Dave, sounds interesting though....
Eric, go to and you'll find the video David made with the Brit singer Deborah Jones he was working with in that band before he passed away. They did some great stuff together that sadly remains unreleased.
Got it.
