A pleasant interlude from this Swedish indie quintet, with a heart and home between Scandi-land and the sun-drenched boulevards of L.A.

It's AOR and West Coast all rolled into one, though it lands in the CD player with a heavier sound in comparison to their previous works - by all accounts, according to their bio. Fatal Attraction have already released an album as far back as 1996, and it's five years later that their second CD 'Simplicity Rules' is ready for release.

The Songs

From that collection of songs comes this prelim 4 track EP. A mix of two predominant West Coast flavoured pieces plus two with a truer AOR bent. Comparisons include the inevitable Toto but in their own Swedish style.

Highlights include the quite brilliant 'Valleys Of Heaven' - those cascading keys from Patrik Eriksson (a self confessed Toto nut) are gorgeous.

'Silver Son' also has much promise, with it's searching guitar lines. Traits of Chicago and Richard Marx crop up on 'Perfect Dream', while the keyboard parps and West Coast flavour are the overriding theme on 'Unknown World'.

In Summary

Overall, a good sampler for things to come, though from my personal perspective, I'd love to see them heavy it up even more, give a track like 'Valleys Of Heaven' a bit of juice with a bigger budget.

Moving in a direction similar to fellow Swedes Grand Illusion would be sorta cool, though matching Peter Sundell's vocals might be a challenge. A good effort nonetheless.
