The Swedish boys Black Rose return with a new demo.

The Songs

The first track 'Wild Child' starts off with a classic keyboard sweep and silky guitar leading in to a solid rock track with a hint of Yngwie Malmsteen and a smidgen of Iron Maiden but incorporating touches of melodic rock.

The second track 'Spacewalk' has some very serious AOR hints reinforcing my suspicions that Black Rose's musical direction is moving into something of greater depth and value, a great guitar solo and the keyboards give the whole track a fuller and sharper sound. Sadly the lyrical content lets this track down - something about a 'spacewalk' (fear of MIR landing on them probably) what are we singing about guys?

The third and last track 'No Way Out' has more great guitar work, another upbeat riff laden track, again with hints of Yngwie Malmsteen. However, again we are suffering from unclear lyrical purpose and depth.

In Summary

Black Rose show great potential but present a mixed bag, three tracks, three mixed ideas. They leave me confused about what they as a band are trying to achieve. Three short tracks, all with different styles all quite good, all not quite hitting home.

If they could pull it all together and take one last step, and come out with a EP or something which was focused on a single theme, showing the range and versatility they have already demonstrated then I think they would be a force to be reckoned with. Not to say this is not worth a listen, great guitar work particularly.
