Background

Lori (Lorraine) Chacko originally from London, UK came out of the early NWOBHM scene as part of the band Amazon. She was picked out by a producer called Joey Balin who had Doro Pesch and Warlock on his CV.

Balin helped instigate a solo deal which resulted in Lori's self-titled debut album which came out in 1986. An all-star cast was assembled for the record including Alan St. Jon (Billy Squier), Leigh Foxx (Franke & The Knockouts) and Thommy Price (Scandal, Price/Sulton).

The Songs

The album is a testament to the mid 80's era, the production values in keeping with every major radio rock record being released by the big production houses. It was easy to promote Lori with her statuesque looks, standing at 6ft 1.

Lori is best known for the track 'Once Bitten Twice Shy', a rockin' affair which hints at a Billy Idol style, and was a popular draw on MTV. I'd suggest this is the album highlight, but the remaining tracks are mostly punchy hard rock with a glossy production.

Other highlights include the quirky 'Life On The Planet', the robust pairing of 'Exception' and 'Life In Between'. The only song which is different from the rest is the ballad 'Out Of Time (Song For Margo)'.

In Summary

Though given a PR push by the suits at Polydor, the album, unfortunately, didn't convert into sales during 1986. It has never seen an official CD release either. Lori eventually moved to Australia and has a continued web presence.

Lori Chacko looks like Jean Beauvoir's sister on the album cover. ;)

I have this album. Her voice is so low it could easily pass for a male singer from the LA glam scene. Nice surprise that the video is not for ANOTHER version of the Ian Hunter staple.
