Background

This Spanish band have always proved to be a popular drawcard at Glory Daze since their 2002 debut CD way back when. They've released albums intermittently since then, plus there was the 2014 outing known as Secret, which in effect was 91 Suite in disguise.

Not quite out of the public eye, the two main guys in the band Jesus and Ivan have knocked out another set of tracks on what is a six track Mini album, called 'Starting All Over'. It all came on the back of a 2017 reunion to help commemorate their 20th anniversary, and things took off from there. Released in September 2019 on their own Suite Records label, the band deliver on a template that is their own and forged upon twenty years of experience.

The Songs

The opener 'Perfect Rhyme' comes complete with tippy-tap synths and some incisive guitar work from Ivan. If you like stuff similar to The Defiants then get in quick. Second up is 'Starting All Over', it's one for Bon Jovi fans, with the JBJ vocvalisms and the Sambora-esque vocoder. Good start indeed.

'Nothing Left For Us' is likeable mid-paced melodic rock, kinda modern, and in keeping with bands you'll find on the Frontiers roster. Read into that what you will. Fourth up, 'Something About You' heads into ballad territory. It's not totally throwaway, but the Bon Jovi comparison is hard to ignore truth be told.

'All For Love' sees the band picking up the tempo with excellent results. This is how I like bands of this type creating their music. It's not exactly shot out of the cannon as such, but good to see the band operating with the metronome set above 130 bpm. To conclude, 'I Am The One' thickens up the sound, big guitars, synth layers for a backdrop and some desperate lovelorn lyrics.

In Summary

A good but brief return from the Murcia based boys, and one can assume that six tracks worth of music is designed as a teaser for more to come. Let us hope that 2020 delivers more from the team at 91 Suite.
